UN Warns Gaza, West Bank Situation Is Worsening Amid Global Distractions

(MENAFN) A senior United Nations official has warned that conditions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank continue to deteriorate, even as international focus shifts toward other regional conflicts.

Khaled Khiari told the UN Security Council that recent escalations across the Middle East have diverted attention away from the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, adding that developments on the ground are “steadily worsening” despite what he described as a fragile ceasefire environment.

He said that nearly the entire population of Gaza has been displaced, estimating that around 1.8 million people are now living in temporary shelters and dependent on humanitarian assistance amid ongoing insecurity, widespread destruction, and increasing public health risks.

Khiari noted that while there have been some limited improvements in the delivery of aid, significant obstacles remain. These include inconsistent access permissions, restricted entry points for humanitarian operations, and limitations on the entry of essential relief supplies, all of which continue to hinder the United Nations’ response efforts.

He also emphasized that planning must move forward urgently not only for immediate humanitarian assistance but also for longer-term recovery and reconstruction efforts in the territory.
