Global Sumud Flotilla Departs Barcelona, Delays Journey Due to Weather
“Due to weather conditions, our mission will sail from this port today, but will not be sailing to international waters because we cannot make this journey safely today,” Avila explained. He further noted that the mission would progress towards Gaza in stages, with potential delays depending on the weather along the route.
“We are leaving here, going to Gaza in different steps, maybe sometimes having to stop a little bit to wait for the weather,” Avila said. He emphasized the convoy’s adaptability, stressing that safety and technical considerations would guide their movements on the sea.
The Global Sumud Flotilla was organized to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza, deliver much-needed humanitarian aid, and raise global awareness of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
This mission, which departs Barcelona with about 70 vessels and nearly 1,000 participants from 70 countries, is significantly larger than the previous mission in September 2025, which included 42 boats and 462 participants.
